Part 3: Happy St. Patrick's Day

Paul to William: "I bet you can't make a pot of gold."

Catch up, part 2: an embarrassment of riches

The week of my cousin's death, Paul had a flurry of job interviews. Something like 7 interviews. That's a lot of suit-wearin' for Mr. FL. The result was--the morning of the funeral as it would happen--three job offers to choose from. That was a weird day. He starts the new job next Wednesday.

Catch up, part 1: Sad news

My cousin, Nancy, passed away two weeks ago today. It was sudden and surprising. The cause might probably be best, but imperfectly, described as an acetaminophen (Tylenol) overdose. She had been taking two medications--one prescription and one over-the-counter--which unbeknownst to her were putting too much acetaminophen into her system. It had damaged her kidneys and liver beyond repair. They were trying to stabilize her to receive a liver transplant, but she didn't make it. Nancy was one of the most positive people I have ever known. She was an accomplished figure skater in her youth, and as a member of a precision skating team, performed in the opening ceremonies of the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid. She most recently had been managing the Braemar Ice Arena and also worked in the Guthrie Theater gift shop. Every time Mr. FL & I were at the theater, I would look up her name in the program. It's still hard to believe. She was 42.

Yesterday's phenology: Ice out on Lake Nokomis (80% covered with ice the day before); Northern Shovelers, Wood Ducks, and possible loon (winter coloring?) sightings along with Mallards, Canada Geese, and Gulls.

...and we found a dead owl

It has been kind of a weird day, and not really in a good way. It started out kind of minor: William fell on the ice a couple of times after church and I lost one of my gloves. But then when we got home, Mr. FizzyLizzy told me that my cousin is gravely ill in the hospital. William fell on the ice a couple more times and the kids broke a window on the door to our porch. And we found a dead owl near the creek.

Mr. FL and I did have a nice evening out last night (Happy 40th, Amy!) which helped to shore us up against today's trials.

Monarchs fall to Folwell, 0-8

Yep, the Monarchs did not make it far in the tournament, losing their first game. The team that beat them went on to win the championship in their league. Folwell was a good team and it is to the Monarchs' credit that they held them to only 8 points. The scores for the other two games Folwell won were 18-4 and 16-5. As it turns out, our park is having an in-house tournament in a few weeks, so there will be a couple more chances for Katherine to score a basket.

They was robbed!

Doesn't every kid want a snow day? To wake up in the morning and have your mom tell you there's no school. Today was already a day off for Katherine and William so they were deprived that pleasure.

I'm not sure what's up with the bluish cast to these photos.

You want me to move my car where?

Can they ticket and tow me if they can't find my car?
